Chief Concerns: Stephen Brown
This isn’t Hollywood, made up, or some cruel joke… this is an actual text poll showing respect for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Yes, the Chiefs are getting some love in the text polls.
What does this mean? To fans, the ones that will admit it, it means a lot.
Respect has been elusive (a nonexistent) prize for Chiefs fans, but that’s just the start. The real gem is the playoffs and winning in the playoffs. The grand finale is a Super Bowl.
“We have a bigger goal in mind, we’re just stacking it up, taking it one game at a time,” said Justin Houston after the Raiders.
“I’ve never been through this, this is something we need to get used to,” said Derrick Johnson after the game Sunday. “This is how it is when you’re winning, what a great feeling. I want to have this feeling every year. I’m going to cherish this moment and just play good defense.”
You’re right Derrick, Chiefs fans need to cherish the moment, don’t get too caught up in what others say about our team.
There’s plenty of doubters out there, they recite the strength of the opponents Kansas City has played in their past six games… 11-25 they say, splattering that up against the windshield trying to detour our joyride.
Critics want fans to “apologize” for Kansas City’s undefeated start, like the Chiefs don’t deserve it, even though Denver has played the same 11-25 teams.
Hey, the Chiefs didn’t make their schedule, but they’re running it, ruling it’s foes like a GREAT team should.
Yeah, yeah… yeah, the offense can do better. Got it… unbeliever. Hey, Andy Reid said everybody has a piece of it, even the scoring. Everybody gets in on the winning.
“I’m never going to make an excuse for you, that’s not the way we role,” said Reid when asked about the offense and scoring. “The reality of it is we’re a little bit young and we have to get better. Progressively we have to do that as we go. I’m seeing some phases where we’re getting better and we have to continue to do that. We’re going to work our tails off to get better. Then I have to make sure that I get these guys in the right positions against the right looks and then we take advantage of those when we get in those positions. We all have a little piece of this pie and we’re getting ourselves right. We are a little young and we’re learning on the fly here, but we’ll keep getting better.”
They’re playing together as a team, scoring when it counts, and boast a top defense.
Alex Smith isn’t making dumb mistakes, which gives the defense what they need to close the door. The defense seals it, the offense chips in what they have to in the third and fourth. Not cute, but it’s led to six done deals.
Alex Smith didn’t have his best game, it was his worst game against the Oakland Raiders, but he also helped the Chiefs with his legs when he had to and tied the game before halftime.
If Donnie Avery wouldn’t have fumbled the ball near the goal line Kansas City would’ve scored 21 points with Smith and the offense.
Pretty good day’s work.
Hard to pick when Kansas City’s 6-0 for the first time in 10 years and just off 14 losses, but people will.
BUT… ultimately it’s up to each fan how they enjoy this ride… or don’t.
Good day, Chief fans!
